“It is painful to see my little one in the glass box; on a ventilator support - Struggling to breathe! His little eyes are strapped with cotton balls, his small head supports a tube that goes through the nose. My heart wrenches to see injections in his tiny little hand and a heartbeat monitor constantly attached to his chest. My warmth has been replaced with the incubator. I want to hold my baby close to my heart. But the beeping sound of ECG overpowers my heartbeat. Watching all this happening to my baby who is just born breaks my heart. My baby has to rely on ventilator support for his survival. My baby fights bravely through each passing second and all I can do is hope for his health to improve. I urge you to support us in this fight for his life.”
- Priyanka, mother of 7 day old baby
Baby of Priyanka is just 7 days old, born prematurely suffering from Severe Hyaline Membrane disease clinical/culture-positive sepsis mechanical ventilation hyperbilirubinemia. Also, he needs mechanical ventilation support to survive. Hyaline membrane disease occurs when the lungs don’t form properly. Because of severe complications, the child’s clinical condition is not good, and he faces difficulty in breathing and not gaining weight. Without an urgent treatment, this condition may worsen and cause organ damage and in the worst circumstances, even death.
Mr. Prabhakar and Mrs. Priyanka is the parents of a 7-day-old baby. They are a family of 4 members. The baby has a younger sister Shivanya, who is 6 years old. Priyanka is a homemaker and Prabhakar does cleaning. He merely earns INR. 10,000 per month. Such a small amount is just enough for the survival of this family. They have exhausted all their savings for the delivery of Priyanka and now for the treatment of their newly born baby along with medicines.
