“We got to know our baby Kartiki’s condition when she was 2 months old. Her legs were twisted along with her hands. She couldn’t hear or see properly. She didn’t even smile or showed facial expressions. We took her to the government hospital where we got to know her health condition. Kartiki was suffering from Spastic Cerebral Palsy. It happened because of Rubella in my 3rd month of pregnancy. Because of continuous physiotherapy, her right leg is getting normal. And she can see now. But her ears are still the same and she can’t listen. Also, she needs surgery for her right leg. I don’t know whether she will be normal ever again? Will she be able to live a life like children?”
- Seema; mother of Kartiki.
(Rubella is a contagious viral infection best known for its distinctive red rash. While this infection may cause mild symptoms or even no symptoms in most people, it can cause serious problems for unborn babies whose mothers become infected during pregnancy.)
Kartiki’s father, Vijay is working at a private firm on a contract basis and he hardly earns Rs.7000 per month. Seema, the mother of Kartiki is a homemaker and takes care of Kartiki. Because of Kartiki’s condition, the family’s income is spent on medication and treatment. Vijay’s neighbors help him with food and his office colleagues have helped the child with 1 physiotherapy. Day by Day the condition of this family is worsening. The family has done everything to save Kartiki. Please help Kartiki with her surgery so that she can at least be near to living a normal life.
