Bhuvan suffered from constant fever in November 2022. Upon checkup in a Government Hospital, it was found that Bhuvan was suffering from Kidney Tumor.
Wilms’ tumor (sometimes called nephroblastoma) is the most common type of kidney cancer in children. More than 90% of kidney cancers in children are Wilms’ tumors. Wilms’ tumor is almost always diagnosed in children under seven years old, and in 90% of cases it affects just one of the two kidneys (unilateral disease). Most cases of unilateral Wilms’ tumor occur at around three years of age, and it is more common in girls than boys. Congenital mesoblastic nephroma is a tumor of the kidney that is often diagnosed during the first year of life or before birth. It is the most common kidney tumor found in infants younger than 6 months old and is found more often in males than in females.
As with most childhood cancers, the causes of most childhood kidney cancers are unknown. It is not infectious and cannot be passed on to other people.
Most children have part or all of their kidney removed (a partial or complete nephrectomy) and chemotherapy. Some children also need radiation therapy. Chemotherapy and/or radiation can be done: before surgery to shrink the tumor.
“Bhuvan has sleepless nights due to the unbearable pain in his stomach. He cannot stand for long as swelling starts to develop in his legs. He has a tumor and his stomach is swollen. Last year, we got to know what our 5 year old was going through. He used to constantly fall ill with fever. Upon doing his checkup in nearby Government Hospital, we got to know that he had a tumor in his kidney. He cries when he passes urine because the pain is unbearable at times. Please save my son, I cannot see him in such condition.”
